Casa Alberto Heredia is the first residence for artists hosted by a public museum in Argentina. This new space for artistic exchanges, research and creation has opened in what was once the home and studio of Argentinian artist Alberto Heredia (Buenos Aires, 1924–2000), which he bequeathed to the Museo Moderno. With this project, the Museo Moderno looks to extend Alberto Heredia’s immense generosity, by making his bequest available to new generations of artists.
As a public institution dedicated to modern and contemporary visual art, the Museo Moderno hosts extensive individual and group exhibitions, a substantial institutional acquisitions and publications programme, and runs a range of public, educational, social, community and accessibility programmes. Through its association with the museum, the Casa Alberto Heredia Residency offers a unique connection to one of the most important platforms for artistic production and exhibition.
The Residency Programme offers artists and professionals in the fields of art, culture, and education both time and space to carry out research, create works, and interact with the Buenos Aires art scene. Specifically, it provides participants with access to the working and research processes of the Museo Moderno and its team of professionals specialised in areas such as curatorship, collections management, museography, exhibition production, conservation, education and publications, among others.
The Residency Programme receives support from the Association of Friends of the Museum and from the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Alberto Heredia bequeathed his home to the Museo Moderno in 2000 and, with generous support from the private sector, it was refurbished and opened in 2023. The Azcuy Foundation oversaw the architectural renovations of the property while Joanne Cattarossi Estudio designed and executed the interior spaces. This work was also supported by the Association of Friends of the Museum along with the companies El Camino, De Otro Tiempo, Rugit, Arredo, Boutique de Luz, Plavicon, Ferrum, Interieur Forma, Bed Time, Liliana and Blau.
