This book was prepared to accompany the exhibition Elda Cerrato: Wonderful Peoples Day and it is a record of the first anthological exhibition dedicated to the artist. It looks back at her extensive output over the past fifty years, produced in Buenos Aires, Tucumán, and Caracas. The book includes an important selection of images of her work and of the exhibition galleries, as well as a text by curator Carla Barbero and a complete biography by Marcos Krämer.
‘Cerrato’s output takes on narratives as intimate as they are collective, as small-scale in their materiality (like a cellular organism’s) as global or even cosmic (in her maps and geographies). There is no monosemic space-time measure to contain the artist’s tenacity when it comes to investigating the transformative potential of art and ideas. Any analysis of only her work therefore does not do justice to other developments of hers, such as her academic activity or political militancy, be it partisan or art field action. However, her images exhibit her exacting standards in moving the limits of perception and in opening up new cognitive and intuitive possibilities.’
