THEMATIC SPACES

In 2019, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires held the exhibition Ad Minoliti: Museo peluche [Ad Minoliti: Soft Museum]. The artist created a large playroom filled with fantastic characters and where the objects were found in unusual positions, resting on the floor or on armchairs, as if they were people. With this exhibition Minoliti highlighted the importance of affection as a tool for building community bonds.

Can you think of a space in your home that you could transform for a little while?

This activity helps you create your own themed space. You will need several materials that you likely already have at hand, such as fabric, magazines or papers to cut out, thread, glue, paints, paintbrushes, objects or toys that you like, etc.

Let the adventure begin!

• First, think of a space in your home that you would like to decorate like Ad Minoliti did at the museum, transforming it into a playroom (ask an adult for permission and help, so that you can enjoy the fun together).

• Think of a theme you can use as your inspiration. Perhaps something from nature, or a comic, a song, a film you like.

• Look for materials you have at hand that could be useful in building your theme, such as fabric, magazines or papers to cut out, thread, glue, paints, paintbrushes, objects or toys that you like, etc.

• Decorate your space using the materials you have selected. For instance, if you choose “nature” as your theme, you could make paper flowers to hang, or you could cut out figures in the shapes of leaves and plants, and cover the furniture and windows with them.
