Jorge Mara + La Ruche

The Jorge Mara • La Ruche Gallery, inaugurated in late 2001, is a new space continuing the tradition of the existing Jorge Mara gallery held in Buenos Aires in the 1980s, and the one exhibiting in Madrid from 1990-98.
Following the program of the previous galleries, the new space spotlights the work of emerging artists, as well as exhibitions focused on distinctive aspects of established artists active in mid twentieth century Argentinean and Latin
American art Exhibits in Spain in the ‘90s include: “Millares sobre papel”; “Feito año 1960”; “Guerrero en Nueva York”; “Henri Michaux”; “Mark Tobey”; “Ben Nicholson”; “Rafael Barradas”; “Estrada”; “ Washington Barcala”; “Zoran Music”, among
others. Selected exhibitions held in Argentina in the ‘80s include: “Alfredo Guttero”; “Aizenberg y el Surrealismo”; “La Nueva Figuración: De la Vega, Maccio, Deira, Noe”.
The following artists have been exhibited in the new space in Buenos Aires: Fernando Allievi, Carlos Arnaiz, Marcolina Dipierro, Roberto Elía, Estrada, José Antonio Fernández- Muro, León Ferrari, Sarah Grilo, Alfredo Hlito, Kirin, Macaparana, Lucía Mara, Amalia Nieto, Květa Pacovská , César Paternosto, Ana Sacerdote, Kazuya Sakai, Fidel Sclavo, Eduardo Stupía and Carola Zech, all of whom have exhibited abroad and are represented by us.
We also represent the work of two outstanding photographers: Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola.

We have mounted joint exhibitions with The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA); Instituto Moreira Salles in Brazil; Fundación Telefónica in Spain, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid in Spain; Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM), in Valencia, Spain. In 2012 Eduardo Stupía was chosen to participate at The Sâo Pablo Biennal where he presented a wide selection of over 70 works from the last two decades.
In 2015, The Museum of Modern Art, (MoMA), in New York presented “From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires: Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola”, a retrospective exhibition accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue. In 2017, Grilo’s work featured in the “Making Space: Women Artists and Postwar Abstraction” exhibition atThe Museum of Modern Art, (MoMA), in New York.
