Acéfala is a hybrid project; apart from being a gallery, it’s a space for research and residency. It was walled up and collapsed by sound waves during its first years. It was also a resistance bunker for the development of alternative economies and a clandestine laboratory that mixed psychotropic drugs with spiritual dogma. Through its transgressive search, it has been shaped as a platform for the creation of new artistic experiences.
Its search was oriented towards fostering the creation of ‘site-specific’ works that questioned the gallery’s physical space and created a crisis out of its concept. Since its hub is the previous accompaniment of the work in progress, the modality of ‘resident artist’ was implemented, allowing the artist to produce his/her work in situ during the month before the exposition.
In this way, Acéfala has presented the works of artists from different regions of the country in the framework of diverse programs, training clinics, and exhibits, marked by compromise to the projects from their exploration stage until their later implementation and showing.
