Born in 1963, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Lives and works in Buenos Aires.
Studied art at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires.
In 2001 he was awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. He was invited by several institutions in France (Cité des Arts, French Government grant), Germany (schloss Plueshow), Holland (Duende Artists initiative), England (Delfina StudiosTrust), Italy (Civitella Ranieri) and the United States (ArtPace) as artist in residence. He had three important retrospectives from his work: Perspectiva at MALBA Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (2016) and CA2M Madrid (2017), curated by Agustin Perez Rubio; Music Stands Still at S.M.A. K Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art, Ghent, Belgium (2011) curated byThibautVerhoeven and Jorge Macchi, Anatomy of Melancholy, Mercosur Biennial curated by Gabriel Perez Barreiro at Santander Cultural, Porto Alegre, Brazil and Blanton Museum of Art,Austin,Texas, and CGAC, Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Macchi’s production constructs visually powerful fiction that does not hide its artifice and emotionally engages the public.They are artifacts that investigate how the gaze functions while enunciating the fragilities and potencies of images.
