Luis Garay works on ideas of work, exercise and meditation as resources to create and transform physical and mental spaces. His works link questions of a philosophical order (what can a body do? What supports a body? Where is a body when it dances?) with devices that observe the theatrical machinery as an environment to inhabit.
He recently presented his work at Kyoto Experiment Japan, Montpellier Danse, Center Pimpidou Metz, TAP Poitiers, France, Malta Festival Poznan, Poland, ARCO Madrid, Spain, Panorama Festival, SESC, Fortaleza Dance Biennial, Brazil, The Vienna Festival, Austria, GAM, Chile, The Walker Centre, United States, among others.
He directed the Outras Dancas project for FUNARTE, Brazil, and participated in LOTE1, Sao Paulo. In 2017 he was a resident at the Saison Foundation, Tokyo.
He is an associate artist at Latitudes Contemporaines, Lille, France.
