Valentín Demarco was born in Olavarría, province of Buenos Aires in 1986. He currently lives and works in Buenos Aires. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes. Since 2012 he attends Diana Aisenberg’s group critique seminar. As a teenager he was trained in goldsmithing by the master Armando Ferreira in Olavarría. Among his most important solo exhibitions are “Mi puñado de esplín año 3001” (ArtBasel Miami 2021), “¿No soy de aquí?” (Museo Dámaso Arce, 2021) “Patrimonio y algo mas…” (Isla Flotante, 2019), “Un episodio en la vida del artista popular” (Centro Cultural Haroldo Conti, 2016), “Relación abierta” (Galería Isla Flotante, 2016) and “Indio vago, gaucho matrero, artista contemporáneo” (Espacio Diagonal, 2014). Valentín’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Museo Emilio Caraffa, the art department at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and in the section DIXIT at ArteBA art fair, among other galleries and institutions. He has been awarded for his work by Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires MALBA, Fundación Telefónica (2012) and Fondo Nacional de las Artes – (Beca Centenario, 2016). He won the Revelación award given by Fundación Andreani a las Artes Visuales (2013), the Lucio Fontana award given by the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires (2014), and second place in the 11th Concurso Nacional de Artes Visuales organized by the UADE (2016). Valentín was selected for the 17th, 19th and 20th editions of the Federico Jorge Klemm award for the Visual Arts and also for the 2017 edition of the French Embassy’s Braque award.
