Arias Hugo
Untitled, 1994. Ink and glitter on paper. Acervo Hugo Arias. Cortesía Vicky Aguirre.

Hugo Arias was born in Buenos Aires in 1950 and died in the same city in 2011. He worked as a photographer and audiovisual producer in super 8 and 16 mm before attending Ricardo Garabito’s workshop around 1988, where he trained in the field of paint. His work is characterized by the pop gesture and a mixture of “color, joy, freshness and a dose of madness,” as Garabito wrote in 2006, who did not hesitate to describe him as his favorite artist. During the last 20 years he lived between Buenos Aires and Punta del Este and held numerous exhibitions during the summers that became a cult event.
