Julián Terán (La Plata, 1977)
His interest in cartographies, topological and astronomical maps, the way in which maps chart territories and constellations are structured in order to study the skies, is central to his work. That is, in the systems that humans have generated to translate territories and spaces into visual images. The processes of translation, both from the spatial to the visual, or between different artistic languages (Terán creates drawings, composes music and writes) as well as between different languages is a constant concern of this artist. Terán grew up in a small town in the province of Buenos Aires and this connection to the land and cultural traditions of the Argentine interior informs his work. It is characterized by the development of complex worlds from a simple element: the line. And for the intensity of manual labor as a form of meditation. In addition to being a visual artist, Terán is a composer and performer of contemporary Argentine folk music.
