He was born on 12/15/1950. Plastic artist. He graduated from the Manuel Belgrano National School of Fine Arts. Disciple of the conceptualism that dominated the Argentine plastic scene in the ’60s. His work ranges from paintings to objects, in a mix of the discursive with the poetic. He obtained fellowships from the Esso Foundation (1985) and Guggenheim (USA, 1986). He held numerous solo exhibitions in important national and international galleries and museums, including Galería Ática, Galería Ruth Benzacar, Mitend Gallery (Paris), Center Régional d’Art Contemporaine (Montbéliard, France) and La Ruche Gallery. In 2003 he performed The Laboratory of Roberto Elía at the Recoleta Cultural Center, a retrospective of his 34-year career. He received the Braque prize from MAMBA (1980), Hoechst from Harrod’s Art Gallery (1991), Manuel Belgrano Municipal Fine Arts Hall (1992), First Prize for Painting by the Recoleta Cultural Center (1995), Gunther Prize V Bienal Buenos Aires (1995) and Young Argentine Painting Award – Fortabat Foundation (PK) (1995).
