Since 2008, we’ve operated as an independent space committed to showing the work of both emerging and established artists.
We opened our first space in Patio del Liceo, which began as an abandoned building but within the first few years after Mite opened, became host to several cultural projects.
Being the only artist-run space in Buenos Aires after the emblematic Belleza y Felicidad closed –and before the opening of the many young art spaces in Argentina today– Mite was crucial for the art scene, as a social gathering space, as a space of encounter between young artists and a generation of established artists who showed their work in our space, as well as a new way of professionalization of independent spaces as art galleries.
Having grown along with our artists, we function as a commercial gallery as well as an experimental space open to the needs of each artist we exhibit. In this way, we provide significant support for contemporary Argentine art.
We have a staff of twelve artists dedicated to the production of painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, photography, installation and video. We are one of the eight founding galleries of Meridiano, Chamber of Contemporary Art Galleries of Argentina.
