Martín Farnholc Halley is a visual, graphic and video artist. He was born on November 20, 1990, in the city of Eldorado, Misiones, Argentina. Currently, he lives and works in the city of Buenos Aires. He studied Visual Arts with orientation in Painting at Universidad Nacional de Artes (2011) and later continued studing Art Criticism at the same university. In parallel, he attended the contemporary sculpture workshop led by Dolores Furtado, and was self-taught in make-up, painting, sculpture and video techniques.
His first solo exhibition, Goliat sin sombra, was held in 2012 at Bonjour gallery. It was followed by the solo exhibitions Instalación Bonificada (2014), at Urgente gallery; Literatura de Producto at ArteBA 2015; Litote (2018) curated by Carlos Herrera and Hueco (2020) at Constitución gallery; and Mariposa fea (2021) at LAR, curated by Nicolás Cuello.
Since 2012, he took part in several exhibitions in public institutions such as Museo La Ene, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Centro Cultural para la Memoria Haroldo Conti, Centro Cultural Recoleta, Centro Cultural Borges, Museo Quinquela Martín. In addition, he exhibited his work in private spaces such as the galleries Isla Flotante, Big Sur, Mite, UV estudios, Aldo se Sousa, NN, Urgente and Fantazia.
Between 2018 and 2020, he was based in Mexico City, where he participated in the exhibitions Fiebre Bot Fantasma, curated by Martín Fernández y Antonio Villa, at Casa de la Cultura of UAEM, and Videodrome at Deslave gallery (Tijuana). He was part of Archivos Subterráneos at La Postal, exhibition room belonging to Terremoto Magazine (Mexico City), and 7 verdades ocultas del Arte Argentino at Biquini Wax, with Tobías Dirty. In 2020 he participated in Relamida, curated by Gaby Cepeda and Angela Cuahutle.
Besides his work as an artist, he was the curator of a number of exhibitions while codirecting Urgente (2013-2015) with Tobías Dirty y Gala Berger. Moreover, he curated a cycle of first solo exhibitions of young artists led by the Cyborg workshop (2016-2018) and the exhibition Una época/Ninguna Época, at Museo La Ene.
He was selected and awarded in several salons and competitions (Castagnino + Macro, Proyecto A, Fundación Williams, Salón Castagnino + Macro and Museo Rosa Galisteo).
He has participated in both national art fairs such as ArteBA, Mercado de Arte Córdoba, Microferia Rosario, and the international fairs ArBO, PArC and ChACO.
His work is part of private collections and recently his video installation named El golpe de los tubos I-III was acquired by the Federico Jorge Klemm Foundation.
