After years of repression, censorship and forced disappearances, Argentina returned to democracy in December 1983. The country emerged from the dictatorship with the election of Ra\u00fal Alfons\u00edn, who took office on 10 December.<\/span><\/p>

Nacha Guevara returned to the country after nine years in exile to witness, filled with emotion, the return to democracy. Her own return was a symbol of the reunion between art and freedom.<\/span><\/p>

In this new climate, her songs \u2018Por qu\u00e9 cantamos\u2019 [\u2018Why We Sing\u2019], \u2018Te quiero\u2019 [\u2018I Love You\u2019], \u2018Vuelvo\u2019 [\u2018I\u2019m Coming Back\u2019] and \u2018Mi ciudad\u2019 [\u2018My City\u2019] quickly became part of the soundtrack of the so-called \u2018Alfonista Spring\u2019, forming part of the marches, rallies and meetings where words once again had value.<\/span><\/p>

The song \u2018Los patitos feos\u2019 [\u2018The Ugly Ducklings\u2019] (1984), dedicated to artist Federico Manuel Peralta Ramos, describes members of the generation who, after suffering exile, censorship and death, became prophets in their own land.<\/span><\/p>

In 1984, Nacha sold out more than 160 performances of her show <\/span>Aqu\u00ed estoy<\/span><\/i> [<\/span>I\u2019m Still Here<\/span><\/i>], first at the Coliseo theatre and later at the Lola Membrives, ultimately performing for more than 100,000 spectators. The public\u2019s response was overwhelming: the country wanted to see Nacha Guevara, to hear her and thank her. It was not simply about applauding an artist, but a celebration of the return of a voice that had been silenced and had returned to the stage at a time of democratic euphoria.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
