Simon Njami<\/b>, Independent Writer and Curator, Paris, France<\/p>

Simon Njami is a Paris-based independent curator, lecturer, art critic and novelist, who studied literature, law and philosophy at the Sorbonne. He was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of\u00a0Revue Noire<\/i>, a journal of contemporary African and extra-occidental art. He served as Artistic Director of the First Joburg Art Fair in 2008, the African Photography Encounters biennial in Bamako for ten years, and the Dak\u2019Art biennale (2016\/2018). He held different roles at the World Press Photo awards. He co-curated the first African pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. He is President of the International Festival of Extraordinary Textiles (FITE), Clermont-Ferrand.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Njami has curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art and photography, including:\u00a0Africa<\/i>\u00a0Remix<\/i>\u00a0(2004\/2007) at the First Joburg Art Fair (2008);\u00a0The Divine Comedy<\/i>\u00a0(2014) at the Museum f\u00fcr Moderne Kunst (MMK), Frankfurt, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Savannah (2014), and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. (2015);\u00a0Xenopolis<\/i>\u00a0(Berlin 2015),\u00a0After Eden<\/i>, the Artur Walther Collection (Maison Rouge, Paris, 2015);\u00a0Afriques<\/i>\u00a0Capitales<\/i>\u00a0(Paris, Lille 2017);\u00a0Metropolis<\/i>\u00a0(Maxxi, Rome, 2018);\u00a0I is another<\/i>\u00a0(Galleria Nazionale, Rome 2018);\u00a0Aujourd\u2019hui<\/i>\u00a0(National Museum of Cameroon, 2019);\u00a0The Studio<\/i>\u00a0(Kampala Biennale 2019);\u00a0This<\/i>\u00a0Space<\/i>\u00a0Between<\/i>\u00a0Us<\/i>\u00a0(Centro Atl\u00e1ntico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas 2020);\u00a0Materia<\/i>\u00a0Prima<\/i>\u00a0(San Giminiano, 2021);\u00a0A Collective Diary<\/i>\u00a0(Tunis, 2022);\u00a0Charades<\/i>, a solo exhibition of\u00a0Yassine Balbzioui\u2019s work<\/i>\u00a0(Marrakech, 2022); and\u00a0The Sharing of the Sensitive<\/i>\u00a0(Suza, 2023).<\/p>

He has been a member of the scientific boards of numerous museums and institutions, and a Visiting Professor at University of San Diego California (UCSD) (1991\/93).<\/p>

In 1998, he created the pan-African Photographer\u2019s Master Class with the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg and directed it for 12 years. He also set up the contemporary art collection for the M\u00e9morial ACTe museum in Guadeloupe. He created and is conducting the critical-thinking workshop AtWork, nurtured by the Moleskine Foundation. He has published and edited numerous books, including two biographies (of James Baldwin and Leopold S\u00e9dar Senghor) and four novels.
