Welcome to the Museo Moderno\u2019s 2024 Programme!<\/strong><\/p>

Arte es educaci\u00f3n<\/em> [Art is Education<\/em>] is a concept we will be developing throughout the year in course. The reasons for choosing this focus are twofold. First, we feel it is important to affirm the value of this public museum \u2013 reliant on the Ministry of Culture of the Buenos Aires City Government \u2013 which has been devoted for 68 years to theoretical and practical research and to raising the profile of Argentinian art of its day, while working shoulder to shoulder with the artists who are the inspiration behind the very existence of this home of Argentinian art. We also want to make this pool of decades of research available to every one of our visitors, while bringing visibility to the knowledge being developed by the Museum around the link between art and education, an area that, today, situates the Museo Moderno at the forefront of museums in Argentina and Latin America.<\/p>

The Museo Moderno is committed to a pedagogy of wonder, where learning goes hand in hand with experimentation and play, and to developing an experience grounded in the enjoyment, surprise, curiosity or pain awakened by the works of great Argentinian artists. It is our conviction that art is a vehicle for knowledge that enables us to encourage observation, questioning and critical thinking about our reality and ourselves. We are working to bring art to the most diverse audiences through active participation to foster a culture of belonging, of being-in-art<\/em>. We love to think of the museum as a poetic shelter and public service, a place to return to again and again, a healthy space to inspire the imagination and a catalyst for individual and collective well-being.<\/p>

On this road, we at the Moderno are passionate about thinking and working with the heterogeneous socio-environmental realities and the physical and psychological conditions that inform our diverse community, as well as about devising and developing a broad spectrum of exhibitions and artists\u2019 workshops, tours and activities, inside and outside the Museum, in local neighbourhoods, the city and the rest of the country.<\/p>

This exhibition explores the relationship between art and education, focusing on experiences built up over the course of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in Argentina. These experiences were driven by pioneering artists, educators and teachers and also encompassed projects to democratise knowledge organised by institutions and their outliers with the same egalitarian, experimental and transformative roots.

Being project-based, the discipline of drawing reminds us that the image is always a \u2018call to imagine\u2019. Making use of extremely simple materials like pencil and paper, drawing invites us to talk about the world and human existence: it enlarges what is small, intimate and everyday, or makes what is immeasurable or incomprehensible accessible.

Javier Soria V\u00e1zquez was born in Cafayate, a town of master potters and textile makers located in Salta Province on the border with Tucum\u00e1n. As well as training as an artist, he has undertaken curating studies, which has inspired him to expand his artistic practice as a painter to include works carried out in collaboration with other artists and with the participation of the public.

In 2024, the Museo Moderno will proudly present the first solo exhibition in a museum in Argentina by the young artist Celina Eceiza (Tandil, 1988). This is a totally immersive, ambitious project conceived by the artist for this space and produced entirely by the museum as part of its commitment to supporting Argentinian artistic talents.
