The Moderno presents the first retrospective exhibition by the artist Alberto Goldenstein (Buenos Aires, 1951). His artistic journey shall be reflected in a set of 300 photographs taken between 1982 and 2018. All the series have been specially re-printed for this exhibition and many of the photographs have never been exhibited before.
It includes his first photographs of the city of Boston, where he studied; his famous series ‘Mar del Plata’ (2001) and ‘Mundo del arte’ (The Art World, 1990-1993), the latter including portraits of famous Argentine artists from the nineties; his urban explorations of the City of Buenos Aires (1987-2016) and his latest work in Miami (2018) presenting a distinctive perspective on art fairs in the city. Each of these series shall be exhibited on slides specially designed by the artist and curator for this presentation.
This project sums up the essential characteristics of Goldenstein’s photography which construct images that reflect his feeling of alienation from reality, rebelling against the formal canons of the discipline and pushing the boundaries of what is considered correct practice in the photographic tradition. Goldenstein’s work is key to understanding the development of contemporary photography in Argentina to which he has made a major contribution as an artist, teacher and curator for the past 17 years at the Photography Gallery at the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas.
